The Avishkar Hyperloop team, consisting of 76 undergraduate and postgraduate students from IIT Madras, is leading the charge in developing this revolutionary system. The technology rollout is planned in two phases:
- Phase One: Construction of an 11.5-kilometer test track to certify and demonstrate the technology.
- Phase Two: Extension of the track to 100 kilometers, showcasing real-world feasibility.
Upon completion, the facility will also house the World’s Largest Hyperloop Vacuum tube, serving as a test bed for further research and innovation by Indian Railways.
The estimated project cost stands at ₹8.34 crore, with IIT Madras seeking support from the Ministry of Railways for manufacturing assistance, safety regulation formulation, and funding to push the project forward.
Hyperloop: Speed and Efficiency Redefined
Hyperloop trains are designed to achieve speeds of up to 1,100 KMPH, with an operational speed of around 360 KMPH. This is made possible by the use of low-pressure vacuum tubes, eliminating friction and air resistance.
Each pod, capable of carrying 24–28 passengers, offers direct point-to-point connectivity, significantly reducing travel time and enhancing energy efficiency. The proposed system ensures seamless and sustainable transportation for passengers and cargo alike.
